A birth class focused on
emotional
and psychological preparation for
natural childbirth
and parenting
(along with the practical information you might
need).
The class is open to all; our clients or anyone else planning
a natural birth, in or out of hospital.
The Inner
Work of Birth is a support group that focuses on the inner
preparation for natural childbirth. We spend half our time
meeting with the pregnant women as a group and on alternate
weeks we invite the partners to join us. The women's groups
allow us to explore more intimate topics that many women are
uncomfortable discussing with other women's partners. We
address issues of coping with pain, dealing with fears,
releasing the need to control and accessing our own
empowerment. We use art, discussions, journaling, sensing
exercises and ceremony to prepare ourselves for one of the
most important events of our lives. During the alternate weeks
we encourage partners to be involved when we cover broader
topics such as recognizing the start of labor, what to expect
during labor, meeting the challenges of parenthood and taking
care of newborn babies. We also spend time focused on partners
and address issues of supporting a laboring woman and
adjusting to the change this baby will bring to their lives.
However, for single Moms or Moms whose partners can't attend
please feel welcomed to join us either alone or with a friend.
Nothing in the class requires partner attendance. For those
who do attend we encourage sincere participation in order to
tailor the class to meet your needs.
What
clients say about The Inner Work of Birth
“This group has been an immense backbone for me,
helping me gather courage, trust, willingness
and empowerment for this labor.”
Samantha, 1st
time mom
Class
participants art work - "Birth Doll"
“The sessions
on pain and coping with labor were so very helpful. Focusing
on entering the pain and trusting I would be able to handle
it. Staying in the moment, not projecting into the next
contraction. Fuzzing the edges of the pain, focusing on
relaxing my muscles, especially my pelvic muscles. Chanting
‘open, open, open’ and actually whispering them to myself.
Visualizing her moving down the birth canal.”
Taunia, mother of 3
"The art was wonderful - it gave
me a way to tap into and express feelings and
emotions and
thoughts I had related to pregnancy and childbirth. I was
intimidated initially, as I don't consider myself artistic, but quickly grew to look forward to the projects."
